I've always admired the Cornett family hay field just south of Okanogan. After the recent arrival of Don Kirby;s book, Wheatcountry, I knew right away how I could get a similar image and capture some of the magic of the field, too.

I visited Don near Pomeroy several years ago when he was putting the finishing touches on his project. So I was aware of how beautiful fields could be with the right light and filter. See Creston Butte for another (wheat) field photography.

This image did well this summer, with one selling at the Confluence Gallery in Twisp.

I can't find my notebook with exposure information, but when I do I will be sure to post it. But I suspect as with other field pictures, I used a strong filter, most probably a dark orange one. I wanted to darken the clouds and raise the contrast in the field, but not lose all detail in the green trees.
