Sometimes when I'm out photographing I think about whether it's better to be alone or with someone during the creative process. I've rationalized that a great image will find you as long as you are looking for it. But I also know that when I'm alone, and close to my thoughts, I seem to see images a lot easier, and perhaps clearer.

I took a small trip for myself through Havillah to Chesaw using a less traveled back road. I really enjoyed the view across a valley towards Lost Lake.

These Aspens caught my eye along the way. I used a long lens to search them out. I liked the negative but did not print the image for a while, preferring to print more traditional aspens (see Bent Aspen or more Aspens near Chesaw) I took on the same trip.

During a break near Christmas, I needed a nice picture for the present exchange at the annual Chronicle party. I choose this one, if only because I loved the light on the trunks.

I often think, while looking at this print, that I probably would not have seen the aspens buried between other trees had I been traveling with someone else. The apsens would have just slipped past as another piece of the scenery.
